1805 West Saint Joseph St., Perryville, Missouri 63775
Located at Exit 129 in Perryville, Missouri
The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, also called Saint Mary’s of the Barrens, is a historic Roman Catholic Church, grotto, and Rosary Walk located on 55 acres in Perryville, Missouri. This peaceful place was founded in 1818 with the construction of a small log church and a seminary. The seminary was the first institution for higher education west of the Mississippi River. Originally part of the Louisiana Purchase, this land grant, signed by John Quincy Adams, provided a place for the formation of Catholic priests, brothers, and settlers. The combination of history and religion make it an important place to learn, reflect, and relax.
Whether you are enjoying a peaceful walk along the half-mile Rosary Walk, reflecting in prayer at the century-old grotto, or simply admiring the many paintings inside the nearly 200-year-old Shrine Church, we hope you leave inspired and filled with the Holy Spirit.
